I’ve written before many times about the importance of remote data backup. For smaller amounts of data, our remote data backup system is the preferred choice. For all of the video stuff I’m now producing on my MAC, the data load has quickly approached 500 GB. To handle that job, it’s up to me to update these 1 TB mirrored drives every two weeks and then make the switch…

I bring this on to the office and then bring the one from the office home. So, at any given time, I have 2-3 copies of the data in two different locations. The only thing that would still hurt me is a giant tornado that wiped out the whole city :0

For now, this is working very well. I encourage ALL of you out there who have to handle large amounts of data to do the same. That external hard drive sitting next to or on top of your computer is NOT enough! If you don’t believe me, watch this video for a story that tells you why.

Last week, a local customer dropped off his hard drive for data recovery. Being a physician, he understands the impact that telling his story might have on you. Similar to the way a resident at the hospital spends most of his or her time following the attending physicians, this is your opportunity to follow Mike’s story as it unfolds. You can learn immensely from him and his story. I highly encourage you to watch this video series as it is released.

To set-up your FREE trial of our Remote Data Backup system, click here.

Here’s Part I of Mike’s Story…

**Note: pay close attention to what he says about the importance of an immediate backup. He does a great job of pointing out why a remote data backup system is so vital to protecting your data. Especially when you’re a daily computer user like he is.

Don’t get me wrong, we’re the least expensive viable alternative you have when it comes to hard drive data recovery. Sure that’s a bold statement. And sure, that’s our opinion. And it’s an opinion based on the years of experience we have in handling the data recovery needs of thousands of people across the country.

Can you find a lower cost alternative or a ‘do-it-yourself’ solution? Well, it might be cheaper but if it is, you need to be wary. The better and cheaper alternative SOLUTION when it comes to hard drive data recovery is like so many other things in life – PREVENT your need for it in the first place.

What do I mean?

Set-up our remote data backup solution RIGHT NOW! It will take you 10 minutes or less and then you’ll avoid what I’m about to describe next…

You see, hard drive data recovery gets more expensive all the time because we are all using more and more data each year, and as all those hard drives get bigger, the investment you have to make to recover your data increases. Here’s a good example…

I have a client who just learned the hard way that if you don’t have a current, up to today’s date backup in place, and your hard drive goes bad. Well, then you’re in for a costly recovery process. You see, he’s just like everyone else out there we talk to on a daily basis who are mistaken in thinking that a backup to an external hard drive is enough. Especially when that system relies on YOU manually sending data to that drive.

In my client’s case, he was sending his ‘backed-up’ data to that external drive about once a week. When his hard drive went bad, he learned the hard way how much data you actually create in a week. Files you work with change every time you touch them, and often, you’ve accomplished more work in a short period of time than you think.

So now, he’s in for a 500 GB hard drive data recovery case. A case that typically runs in the neighborhood of $1,400. It takes more than a day to get data off a drive like that. The bigger the drive, the more time it takes to scan it and to perform all of the other proprietary tasks that are necessary.

OK, that better and cheaper alternative I mentioned in the headline for this post?

REMOTE DATA BACKUP! You can find a link to a FREE trial in the right hand column of this blog. The set-up is simple and the low monthly investment is well worth the piece of mind and nothing compared to the time, money, angst and energy you’ll need to spend when it comes to a hard drive data recovery like this one. Not to mention that we are not ALWAYS successful.

Do yourself a favor…set up your free trial today and STOP THE MADNESS!

It was interesting…

I called Nick Thomas today to review the format for tomorrow’s filming session, and he revealed to me something very interesting on accident.

You see, part of the plan for tomorrow’s shoot is to document a very important story that we want IT professionals in particular to pay very close attention to. It is the story of an IT business owner who lost his entire business because he made some very simple and very common mistakes.

When I asked Nick today about this story he said to me, “What guy? I can’t remember that specific story off the top of my head. You have to understand, we see this kind of stuff happen on a regular basis.”

As the Gillware blogger – working from the outside and looking in – this was astounding to me! Not that Nick couldn’t remember this story but that it happens over and over again so often, that in the middle of a busy day, it’s hard for him to place it. Kind of like the data this IT pro had lost for his customer.

Now, I realize that as an IT pro you might be saying to yourself…”Geez John, I’m pretty careful with my own and my customers data. Why are you trying to get me all worked up? Well, because that’s what we always here and yet, we see mistakes like this one every day.

I don’t have time to go in to the specifics at the moment. It’s time for dinner and my family needs me for awhile. But stay tuned to the blog, because there’s some really great stuff coming – both written and in video and audio format. You’re gonna love it, and if you’re an IT pro, it’s really going to help you.

I look forward to sharing it with you…

John
